Under Canvas, the upscale outdoor hospitality company, has opened Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge, its first glamping resort in Washington State. The newest campground, set on 120 acres in Washington's White Salmon River Valley with views of Mount Hood, joins 11 other Under Canvas locations nationwide.
What makes this camp special is its proximity to a wider range of activities — from prime outdoor recreation and award-winning wineries to active lifestyle pursuits. Just 15 miles from White Salmon, Wash., and a one-hour drive from Portland, Ore., along the Columbia River, the new property offers guests a new way for incentive groups and VIPs to experience the Pacific Northwest.
"As our first Pacific Northwest location, Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge represents an exciting milestone for the brand," said Matt Gaghen, CEO of Under Canvas. "While it reflects our ongoing commitment to creating immersive outdoor experiences, this location is truly one-of-a-kind, most notably providing guests spectacular views of Mount Hood and the stunning valley floor. It offers a unique opportunity to connect guests with the stunning beauty of the Columbia River Gorge — where comfort meets adventure, and endless outdoor recreation is uniquely paired with the region’s renowned wine and culinary offerings."
The tent experience
The camp features 50 upscale safari-inspired canvas tents set on private decks. Each features a king-size bed, luxe linens, bedside lanterns, USB charging packs, a gas fireplace, and ensuite bathrooms with hot pull-chain showers, sinks and toilets. Signature accommodations include the Stargazer Tent, designed with a viewing window above the bed for sky-watching, as well as the Mount Hood Suite Tent: two tents connected by a private deck and outdoor lounge, perfect for groups seeking spacious, shared retreats.
Community gathering
The camp’s design reflects the rich textures and natural hues of the Pacific Coast region. The lobby tent, furnished with West Elm pieces and works by local artists, features inviting lounge areas and communal dining spaces. A curated selection of books and games from Northwest artisans are available for enhancing the fun, and just steps away is an expansive deck for yoga, stargazing, or just soaking in the sweeping valley and mountain views.
Packed activity and dining menus
With a dedicated on-site experiences team, guests enjoy customized recommendations and access to the region’s top activities. Among the options are scenic trail hikes, kayaking the White Salmon River, and pedaling along guided and self-guided bike tours. Itineraries are curated for each guest. Groups also can explore such nearby towns as Hood River, Ore., unwind with wine tastings at more than 10 local wineries, or seek adrenaline-pumping adventure with whitewater rafting.
On-site programming includes a range of activities, such as live music, yoga, nightly s’mores and more. Premium brand partnerships offer guests use of Lululemon yoga mats and blocks, Black Diamond hiking poles, and a Gibson guitar for fireside strumming. Guests also can shop the curated retail collections, including the limited edition Under Canvas X Aviator Nation collection of sweatshirts, Hydro Flask drinkware, Sun Bum products, Pendleton wool goods and the Under Canvas apparel line.
The dining program highlights al fresco and indoor café-style options, serving freshly made, seasonal dishes. Grab-and-go lunches and snacks are available throughout the day.
